Martin Frobisher 1576

The Pioneers 2

In the 16th century the Portuguese and the Spanish dominated the world's oceans. For upcoming seafaring nations such as England and the Netherlands, the trade routes to Asian markets were closed. This resulted in the search for a Northern bypass of the American continent in order to reach the Pacific. Frobisher, half explorer - half pirate, as well as his contemporary Francis Drake, reached Frobisher Bay and sailed the Hudson Street. Alleged gold-rich ore, which he had brought with great effort to England, turned out to be worthless.
