Edward Parry 1819/20

The Northwest Passage 2

Parry, participant of the Ross expedition, was eager to prove that it was possible to pass through the Lancaster Sound. One year later he was lucky to be commissioned with a trip in which he succeeded to cross the 110th longitude what brought him a bonus of 5,000 pounds. However, he was forced to hibernate close to the Melville Island. This winter used to be one of the funniest ones of polar research. In addition to good equipment and food, Parry had especially also taken care for entertainment. There was a board paper and a board theater.
