Henry Hudson 1610
The Pioneers 4
The crossing of the North Pole itself has also been considered although there had been an absolute lack of clarity concerning its nature until the end of 19th century. Hudson was the first who sought a northern route. After several failed attempts both in North and North-East, in 1610 he finally reached the Hudson Bay which he considered to be the passage to the Pacific. After an involuntary hibernation under miserable conditions, the crew mutinied and set Hudson and his few supporters in a boat that was never seen again.
