Giovanni Caboto 1497

The Pioneers 1

So called John Cabot was a Genuese fellow in the service of England. He went on a quest for a Northern bypass around the continent, which he still keep for Asia, a few years after the discovery of America. In 1497 he probably reached Labrador. On a second trip he and his crew disappeared without a trace. His son, Sebastian Cabot, continued the exploration of the North Atlantic, especially in theory. He was the first one to formulate the idea of the North-West- and the North-East-Passage, now in regard to the true geographical conditions.
